I really like the image. The coloring job really highlights the line work well. Good use of negative space.

Although I'm not sure what you were requirements were, for a book i can see why they might reject it. It puts off alittle as "unfinished" To me there could be more to add to this. What that could be i'm not sure, but the thing is that you just have too much blank space.
